Malvasia di Schierano
A red Malvasia from Castelnuovo Don Bosco in the hills north of Asti, made sweet and frizzante, pale in colour with a strong rose and raspberry perfume and low alcohol. It is the close cousin of Malvasia di Casorzo and is made the same way.
Worth knowing
The two Piedmontese red Malvasias are separated by about thirty kilometres and by paperwork more than by anything in the glass. Each has its own appellation, each is made almost identically, and neither is easy to find outside its own province.
