Red
Neretto
Also called Neretto di Bairo.
A red of northern Piedmont, also called Neretto di Bairo, grown across the Canavese hills around Bairo, Valperga and San Giorgio and, more modestly, in the Pinerolese. It goes into Canavese Rosso and, in the Pinerolese, into Ramìe, and it is rarely bottled on its own.
Worth knowing
It has been grown in the Canavese for as long as anyone can trace and was first mentioned in the early 1800s. Its origins are unknown, and it is a difficult vine to grow, with low and inconsistent yields.
