Red
Quagliano
A red of the foothills west of Saluzzo toward Monviso, in the Colline Saluzzesi appellation. It is mostly made into a frothy, sweet, low alcohol red that tastes of raspberry, and only a handful of growers bottle any of it.
Worth knowing
It survives in one tiny appellation alongside Pelaverga Grosso, and the pair are the reason that appellation exists. Sweet sparkling reds were once common across Piedmont, and this is one of the last places making one from a grape found nowhere else.
