Chianti Classico 2023

Two years in seasoned French oak, split between large casks and barriques, give the 2023 Fontodi Chianti Classico its polish without any overt wood. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese, it shows a glowing ruby-purple core deepening toward dark at the center with a magenta rim, and a concentrated, plush nose of violet petals, baked marionberry, rose hips, and a savory thread of cured meat laced with wild sage. Chalky tannins and moderate-plus acidity shape a full-bodied palate where black cherry and bramble fill the mid-palate. Toasted anise and a bitter green almond note mark the finish.
