Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2024

Bottle photo: Ornellaia
More structured and layered than its sibling Le Volte, the 2024 Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove from Bolgheri combines 49% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Petit Verdot, and 13% Cabernet Franc, aged about 14 months in French oak, 30% of it new. A dark, brooding purple-red core glows at a neon rim, and the nose offers blackberry, black cherry, and milk chocolate over pencil shavings and dried sage, with a lively freshness sitting above the deeper tones. The palate is balanced, structured, and full of energy, with chalky tannins and medium-plus acidity holding the full body in place. Hints of licorice root and crushed graphite carry into the finish.
