Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore (Ovada) DOCG
The most structured, ageworthy Dolcetto in Piedmont, from the warmer, iron-rich soils near Liguria. The grape here gives darker fruit (black cherry, damson), a savory earthy edge, firmer tannin and enough acid to go ten years in a good vintage. Producers are tiny family farms; the wines can taste rustic young and then turn gamey and complex. Rarely seen outside Italy.
