The DOC that used to be called Pignoletto. Since 2021 the name Pignoletto has belonged to this appellation alone, tied to the region's name, and Pignoletto is the only wine made under it. It is Emilia-Romagna's second denomination after Lambrusco, at around 14 million bottles, and most of it is frizzante or spumante: light, fresh and dry, the white the hills between Bologna and Modena drink with everything. The Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto DOCG covers the best hillside sites; this is the broader everyday tier.
