Grechetto Gentile
Also called Pignoletto, Rebola.
The white of the Bolognese hills, where it is called Pignoletto and has its own appellation. Lighter and more citrus driven than the Grechetto of Umbria, often made frizzante, and at its best a crisp, almond edged wine for drinking young with the region's salumi.
Worth knowing
It is genetically Grechetto Gentile, and it is a different vine from Grechetto di Todi, which is the one that gives Umbrian whites their texture. Two grapes, one family name, and appellation rules that have not always distinguished between them.
