Lago di Caldaro (Kalterersee) DOC

Schiava at its lightest and most charming, from the warm slopes around Alto Adige's lake. Pale ruby, low tannin, with red cherry, strawberry, violet, a bitter-almond note and a smoky, slightly salty finish, usually around 12 percent alcohol. It's the wine locals drink cool with speck and Schüttelbrot. Once a bulk wine, it's been reborn as a serious light red by Kellerei Kaltern, Erste+Neue and Castel Sallegg.
