Negroamaro di Terra d'Otranto DOC
A 2011 varietal DOC created to give Negroamaro a Salento wide appellation of its own, in parallel with Primitivo di Manduria. It requires 90% Negroamaro and covers rosso, riserva and rosato. Expect the grape's usual profile: black cherry, plum, tobacco, oregano, carob and a bitter almond finish, medium body and dusty tannin, with riservas adding leather and dried fig. Uptake has been slow because most estates already sell Negroamaro as Salento IGT, so the DOC label remains uncommon.
