What makes it special

The heel of the boot, and one of Italy's biggest producers. Primitivo and Negroamaro dominate the south, and Nero di Troia the north around Castel del Monte.

What makes it unique

Puglia is flat, hot and sunny, and much of its wine was historically sold in bulk to other regions. Its rosatos are a real tradition, especially in the Salento, and Primitivo turned out to be the same grape as California's Zinfandel.

Why you should care

This is where to find generous, sunny reds at prices that are hard to beat. The best producers are moving past bulk wine toward bottles with a real sense of place.

32 of these still need a bottle. See them on the wanted list.
