The Marche's signature white and one of Italy's most reliable value whites. Young Jesi Verdicchio is pale green-gold with lemon, green apple, white flowers, fennel and a signature bitter almond finish, medium bodied with fresh acidity and a saline snap. Classico superiore bottlings from good sites (Bucci, Sartarelli, Garofoli, Pievalta, Colonnara) add texture and a chalky, waxy depth and can age five to ten years. The old fish-shaped amphora bottle from Fazi Battaglia is the image most Americans know; the wine has moved well beyond it.
