White
Arneis
The white of the Roero, across the Tanaro from the Langhe, grown on sand that gives it a light, perfumed character: white pear, almond and camomile with moderate acid and a faintly bitter finish. It is best drunk young, though the better ones hold a few years.
Worth knowing
The name means something like little rascal in Piedmontese, for how difficult it is in the vineyard. It was traditionally planted among Nebbiolo to distract birds from the red grapes, which is a lowly job for something that now sells on its own name.
