WhiteLead grape in 1
Asprinio
A white of the flat land north of Naples around Aversa, giving a very high acid, low alcohol, lemon sharp wine that was historically drunk young and frothy. It is the sort of wine that only makes sense in its own place and with its own food, and it makes complete sense there.
Worth knowing
It is grown on the alberata aversana, vines trained up poplar trees that can reach fifteen metres. The harvest is done from ladders lashed to the trunks, by a shrinking number of people who know how, and the system is one of the last of its kind in Europe.
