RedLead grape in 1
Bombino Nero
A Puglian red grown around Castel del Monte, with high acid, low tannin and light colour, which makes it poor material for a red wine and excellent material for a pink one. It gives a rosato with real structure, red berry fruit and a clean, dry finish.
Worth knowing
Castel del Monte Bombino Nero is a DOCG for rosato and nothing else, which makes it one of very few pink wine appellations at that level anywhere in Italy. The grape got promoted for being bad at making red.
