Red
Casetta
Also called Foja Tonda.
A red of the Terradeiforti, the narrow Adige gorge between Trentino and Verona. Softer than its neighbour Enantio, it gives sour cherry and dried herbs with moderate tannin, and it has its own varietal bottling within the Valdadige Terradeiforti rules.
Worth knowing
Its local name is Foja Tonda, round leaf, which sets it against Enantio, whose name means jagged leaf. Albino Armani found surviving plantings in his family's vineyards in the 1980s, had it readmitted for cultivation in 2002 and built it up from a few vines to about twelve hectares, and his family owns most of what is planted.
