Multi-region
What makes it special
Some appellations ignore regional borders. These cross from one region into another, usually because the landscape that defines the wine does.
What makes it unique
Lugana straddles the southern shore of Lake Garda between Lombardy and the Veneto, and Colli di Luni joins Liguria and Tuscany at the mouth of the Magra. Orvieto spills from Umbria into Lazio, and the Prosecco and Delle Venezie DOCs cover huge areas of the northeast.
Why you should care
They are a reminder that wine follows hills, rivers and lakes more than lines on a map. Some of them, like Lugana and Colli di Luni, are among the best wines on either side of the border.
