Red
Fumin
A red of the Valle d'Aosta, darker and firmer than Petit Rouge, with black fruit, pepper and real tannin. It ripens late, which at that altitude means it only works on the best sites, and it takes oak and time better than anything else in the region.
Worth knowing
It spent most of the twentieth century as an anonymous blending component, used to add colour and backbone to lighter Aosta reds. Bottling it alone is a development of the last thirty years and it turned out to be the region's most serious red.
