White
Ginestra
A white of the Amalfi coast, grown on terraces around Furore and Tramonti and permitted in the Costa d'Amalfi rules. It brings aroma and a floral lift to the rare local blends, which have to be worked entirely by hand on pergolas above the sea.
Worth knowing
Ginestra is the Italian for broom, and the grape is named for the scent of its berries, which recalls wild broom flowers. It grows in small quantities in Furore, Tramonti, Ravello, Scala and other Amalfi coast towns, and it is one of the three rare whites in Marisa Cuomo's Fiorduva.
