RedLead grape in 1
Groppello
A red of the western shore of Lake Garda, light in colour with soft tannin, red cherry and a spicy, faintly bitter finish. It goes into the Valtènesi reds and, more importantly, into Chiaretto, the pale local rosé that Garda has been making since long before pink wine was fashionable.
Worth knowing
Garda Chiaretto is traditionally made overnight. The juice comes off the skins after a few hours, sometimes by the following morning, which is where the very pale colour and the sharp definition come from.
