White
Guardavalle
A white of the Bivongi appellation on the Ionian side of Calabria, blended with Greco Bianco, Montonico and Malvasia into simple, nutty local whites. The zone is remote and a few dozen hectares in size, and almost nothing is bottled under its name.
Worth knowing
It takes its name from Guardavalle, a town inside the appellation's boundary in the province of Catanzaro. Bivongi is sometimes described as the home of this grape, which in practice means it is one of the very few places anyone grows it.
