Red
Mammolo
A Tuscan red blended in small proportions into Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Rosso di Montepulciano and Chianti. It gives a light body, soft tannin and a clear violet perfume, which is the whole reason it is in the blend at all, since it contributes very little colour or structure.
Worth knowing
The name is from mammola, the violet, for the scent. It is the same variety as Sciaccarello in Corsica, where it is treated as a serious grape in its own right rather than as a perfume added to somebody else's wine.
