Nuragus
A high yielding Sardinian white grown on the Campidano plain around Cagliari, giving a light, fresh, low alcohol wine with citrus and a faint bitterness. It was once the most planted variety on the island by a wide margin and has been in retreat for decades as growers moved to Vermentino.
Worth knowing
It is named after the nuraghi, the Bronze Age stone towers that stand all over Sardinia, which makes it the only grape in Italy named after a piece of prehistoric architecture.
