RedLead grape in 1
Petit Rouge
The main red of the Valle d'Aosta, grown on terraces in the central valley around Torrette. It gives a medium bodied wine with red fruit, a floral note and a herbal, alpine bite, with fine tannin and good acid from the altitude.
Worth knowing
Aosta is bilingual and its wine names follow, so the same appellation carries French and Italian versions on the label. The vineyards are among the highest in Europe, and the growing season is short enough that a bad year simply does not ripen.
