White
Prié Blanc
The white of Morgex and La Salle in the upper Valle d'Aosta, grown at up to about twelve hundred metres beneath Mont Blanc. It gives a very light, high acid, low alcohol wine with alpine herbs and citrus, and it also makes a good sparkling wine.
Worth knowing
These are among the highest vineyards in Europe, and the vines are ungrafted because phylloxera does not survive the winters at that altitude. They are trained low on short pergolas to catch the warmth of the ground.
