Red
Tintore
A red of the Amalfi coast, grown mostly at Tramonti on terraces cut into the hillside above the sea. It gives deep colour, firm tannin and a dark, earthy, herbal wine that tastes of the place more than of any variety you could name blind.
Worth knowing
Some of the vines are ungrafted and well over a century old, on their own roots because the volcanic and sandy soils held phylloxera off. They are trained up pergolas on stone terraces that can only be worked by hand.
