Intense and opulent, the 2023 Ornellaia from Bolgheri blends 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot, aged 18 months in barrel with 60% new French oak. Its dark, inky purple core gives way to a light red rim, and the nose opens on sweet baking spice, dusty purple rose, boysenberry, cassis, mocha powder, and cedar-tinged thyme. The palate is ripe and richly expressive, with dusty tannins and moderate-plus acidity supporting the full body. A vigorous decant makes it approachable now, though it will be at its best from 2028. 12000 cases made.
