Gocce 2013

Bottle photo: Trebotti
A hot, dry vintage gave the 2013 Trebotti Gocce Violone from Lazio the stuffing to age gracefully, and it shows a deep purple-brick core with a light red rim. Pink peppercorn, dried strawberry, and lemon thyme lead the nose, while the palate brings peppery herbs, stewed red fruits, and a touch of tobacco leaf. Smooth tannins, a full body, and moderate acidity show how well it has aged. Expect another 10 years or more of life.
