Alcamo DOC
Historically a bulk Catarratto white DOC from the hills west of Palermo, expanded in the 1990s to allow reds and international grapes. The traditional white is straw colored, with green apple, citrus, fennel and a faintly bitter, almondy finish, low in aroma but fresh; modern versions from Rapitalà add ripe pear and more texture. Most growers now label their wines Sicilia DOC or Terre Siciliane IGT, so Alcamo bottlings are thin on the ground.
