What makes it special

Sicily has more vineyard than any other Italian region, and few have changed as much in recent decades. Etna, Marsala, Pantelleria and Vittoria make wines that could hardly be more different from each other.

What makes it unique

On Etna, vines grow on the slopes of one of the world's most active volcanoes, and wines are increasingly labelled by contrada, the old local districts. Cerasuolo di Vittoria is the island's only DOCG, and Marsala was one of the great fortified wines of the world long before it became a cooking ingredient.

Why you should care

Sicily is an island the size of a small country, with the range to match. From volcanic Nerello Mascalese to salty whites and sweet Passito di Pantelleria, it rewards exploring more than almost anywhere.
