Bianchello del Metauro DOC
A light, simple white from the Bianchello grape (called Biancame elsewhere) grown in the Metauro valley in the north of the Marche. Expect pale straw color, white flowers, green apple, a little citrus and a soft, crisp palate with low alcohol, made to drink young with the fried fish of Fano. Superiore versions from Claudio Morelli and Fiorini add a bit more weight and a saline note. It's a beach wine, honest and cheap, and one of the more surprising things to find at a US retailer.
