Greco di Bianco DOC
One of Italy's oldest dessert wines, from a few hectares of vines on the far southern coast. Grapes are dried on mats for a week or two, then fermented to a golden, moderately sweet wine of around 14 to 17% alcohol with orange peel, dried apricot, fig, honey, bergamot and a bitter herbal edge that keeps it from being cloying. Production is minuscule and mostly from Ceratti and a couple of others. Worth the hunt because nothing else tastes quite like it.
