Greco Bianco

A Calabrian white grown along the Ionian coast, giving the white of Cirò and a part of Bivongi. Lemon, herbs and a firm, slightly bitter finish, with body enough to handle the heat it grows in. It is a different vine from the Greco of Campania despite the shared name.

Worth knowing

Its best wine is Greco di Bianco, a sun dried sweet white from the town of Bianco on the southern tip of Calabria, which makes the label read as though the grape is named after its colour twice. The zone is tiny and the wine is one of the oldest styles still made in Italy.
