Montello Rosso (Montello) DOCG

A Bordeaux-blend DOCG on a single wooded hill west of Treviso, historically the zone where Count Loredan Gasparini made Venegazzù, the Veneto's first prestige Cabernet blend in the 1950s. The wines are medium to full bodied, with blackcurrant, green herb, graphite and cedar, firm tannin and a savory finish that shows the clay and gravel soils; they age well for ten years or more. Production is small and mostly from three or four estates. It's the closest thing Italy has to a Médoc cru outside Bolgheri.
