Terre di Pisa DOC
A red-only DOC for the Pisan hills, where the Chianti Colline Pisane name never carried much weight. It requires at least 70 percent Sangiovese for the Rosso and 95 for the varietal, and the wines tend toward a warm, savory, coastal-influenced style: black cherry, plum, dried thyme, iron and medium-firm tannin. La Spinetta's Tuscan estate and Tenuta di Ghizzano gave it credibility, and quality at the top is high for the money.
