Grechetto di Todi

Also called Grechetto G5.

The Umbrian Grechetto with texture, grown around Todi, where it has its own appellation. Thick skinned, giving a wine with genuine body, a bitter almond finish and enough structure to take wood or skin contact. It is the component that gives Orvieto and the Colli Martani whites their grip.

Worth knowing

It is sometimes labelled Grechetto G5 after its clone number, which is how growers distinguish it from Grechetto Gentile in a conversation. Two vines with the same family name making quite different wine, and the rules of several appellations still treat them as interchangeable.
