RedLead grape in 1
Lacrima
A red from a small zone around Morro d'Alba in the Marche, inland from Senigallia, and one of the most strongly perfumed red grapes in Italy. Rose, violet and ripe red berries come off the glass before you get near it, over soft tannin and moderate acid. It is made to drink young, and it is unmistakable.
Worth knowing
The name means tear, from the way the thick skinned berries split as they ripen and weep juice. It has nothing to do with Lacryma Christi on Vesuvius, and the town of Morro d'Alba is in the Marche rather than anywhere near Alba in Piedmont, which catches people out constantly.
