Lambrusco Grasparossa

Also called Grasparossa.

The darkest and most tannic of the Lambruscos, grown on the hills around Castelvetro south of Modena. Deep purple, with real grip under the fizz and a blackberry and violet character. It is the one to drink with the fattiest food the region can produce, which is saying something.

Worth knowing

The name is from the stalks, which turn red in autumn. It is the only Lambrusco grown on hills rather than the plain, and the tannin that makes it unusual in the family comes with that change of site.
