Malvasia di Candia

Also called Malvasia Bianca di Candia.

The white that fills the glasses of Rome. It runs through Frascati and the Castelli Romani alongside Malvasia del Lazio and Trebbiano, giving a soft, faintly floral, low acid wine meant to be drunk young and cold and without much ceremony. Grown carefully and picked early it keeps enough freshness to be interesting.

Worth knowing

Candia is the old Venetian name for Heraklion in Crete. The grape's name is a shipping record: it marks the route Venetian traders ran through the eastern Mediterranean, and it has outlasted the trade by five hundred years.
