Manzoni Bianco

Also called Incrocio Manzoni, Incrocio Manzoni 6.0.13.

A crossing of Riesling and Pinot Bianco that behaves like a cross between them: green apple and a mineral cut from the Riesling side, weight and a softer texture from the Pinot. Grown mostly in the Veneto and in Friuli, it is one of the very few modern crossings in Italy that makes a genuinely good wine.

Worth knowing

Its full name is Incrocio Manzoni 6.0.13, and it was bred by Luigi Manzoni at the viticultural school in Conegliano in the 1930s. The numbers are a row and vine reference from the trial plot, so the wine is named after a filing system.
