Grapes

White

Pecorello

A white of the Terre di Cosenza appellation in northern Calabria, giving crisp, herbal wines alone and in blends with Greco Bianco. It has become one of the grapes that producers in the zone bottle on its own as they look for something local to build a white around.

Worth knowing

Despite the near identical name it is a different variety from the Pecorino of central Italy, and the two are unrelated. It has been known around Cosenza since the late nineteenth century and was entered in Italy's national catalogue of varieties in 1971.
