Ribona
Also called Maceratino.
A white of the Macerata hills in the Marche, also called Maceratino, giving a dry wine with citrus, almond and a herbal lift over moderate acid. It is light and clean rather than profound, and a few producers have been getting more out of it with lower yields and some lees work.
Worth knowing
A DNA study of Marche varieties found it to be an offspring of Verdicchio, probably from a spontaneous cross, confirming a resemblance growers had long noticed. It has been recorded under many local names, including Greco Maceratese and Montecchiese.
