Grapes

White

Verdello

A white of Umbria and southern Tuscany, part of the Orvieto blend and of Bianco di Pitigliano. It brings acid and a green, citrus edge to blends built on softer, rounder grapes, and it is rarely bottled alone.

Worth knowing

It is not the Verdelho of Madeira, despite the name and a good deal of repeated confusion. It is an Italian variety whose job in the Orvieto blend is to stop the Trebbiano and Grechetto going flat.
