What makes it special

A small, rugged region between Campania and Puglia, and home to Aglianico del Vulture, grown on the slopes of Monte Vulture, an extinct volcano.

What makes it unique

Aglianico ripens very late in the Vulture, and the combination of altitude and volcanic soil gives wines with firm tannin and a real ability to age. The region's only DOCG is the Superiore version of that wine.

Why you should care

Basilicata is one of Italy's least visited regions, and Aglianico del Vulture is one of its most underrated reds. A single bottle tells you a lot about southern Italy that the famous regions do not.
