Prosecco (Veneto / Friuli-Venezia Giulia) DOC

The plains-and-foothills Prosecco that supplies the world, about 600 million bottles a year, created in 2009 when the grape was renamed Glera and the word Prosecco was locked to this territory. Tank method, low pressure, light and soft, with green apple, pear, white flowers and a gentle sweetness in the extra dry style that dominates; brut versions are drier and more citrus. The Treviso subzone is a notch better on average; the pink rosé, allowed since 2020, adds a strawberry note. It's a well-made, inexpensive aperitif, and the DOCG hills above it are where the character lives.
