Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOCG
Abruzzo's first DOCG and its most serious address for Montepulciano. Lower yields and longer aging than the base DOC give a dark, dense red: blackberry, black cherry, licorice, tar and dried herbs, with tannins that are broad and grippy rather than fine. Riserva needs three years. The best bottles from Illuminati, Barone Cornacchia and Nicodemi age ten years or more and cost a fraction of what comparable Tuscan reds fetch.
