Lago di Corbara DOC

A small red-focused DOC on the slopes above a reservoir on the Tiber, created to give the reds of the Orvieto area a home. It's international in outlook: Cabernet, Merlot and Pinot Nero alongside Sangiovese, made in a ripe, oak-influenced style with blackcurrant, plum, cocoa and moderate tannin. Decugnano dei Barbi and Barberani (Villa Monticelli) are the leading estates and use the DOC for their top reds; Tenuta di Salviano's Turlo is the one with the most US history. Quality is solid, but few US retailers stock the reds.
