Malvasia delle Lipari DOC
Sun dried Malvasia from the volcanic Aeolian Islands, mostly Salina, where grapes wither on cane mats for two to three weeks. The passito is golden amber with dried apricot, candied orange, fig, honey, sage and a saline, volcanic bitterness that keeps it from being heavy; naturale is a lighter, off dry version. Carlo Hauner, a Milanese painter, revived it in the 1960s and his family estate remains the reference alongside Caravaglio and Fenech.
