Sangue di Giuda dell'Oltrepò Pavese DOC
'Blood of Judas' is a sweet, fizzy red from the same Barbera and Croatina blend as Buttafuoco, stopped early to keep sugar and low alcohol (around 7 to 9 percent). It's deep purple with a pink foam, and tastes of ripe blackberry, cherry jam, violet and a touch of cocoa, with enough acidity and tannin to keep it from tasting like soda. The Oltrepò drinks it with dessert, pastries or a slice of salami. Decordi and Cantina di Casteggio are cheap and widely available in the US.
