Val d'Arbia DOC
A white-and-Vin-Santo DOC that overlaps geographically with Chianti Colli Senesi and Montalcino, created so the Sienese hills could bottle whites and rosés under a local name. The dry whites are light, neutral Trebbiano-Malvasia blends with lemon and almond. The interesting one is the Vin Santo, which a couple of Montalcino houses use for their dessert wine: amber, nutty, dried apricot and caramel, sweet but with a dry oxidative finish.
